Since Madison has finally reached the 75 degree mark today, I allowed myself to break out my summer clothes. While basking in the skimpier clothing section of my closet, I realized I had ten minutes before I had to be to work. So I threw together the first few things I saw and ran out the door. Even though it's so windy outside that I watched a girl's skirt fly up multiple times on my way to work, I still can't help but to be uber excited to break out my summer clothes for the season! Last night in my geology class (yeah, that's right...don't make fun of me) my group members switched our research project from volcanos to earthquakes. I absolutely hate out of season weather. Not because of the sunshine, people finally going outside or the drum player serenading me outside of the store. I hate it because my instincts tell me not to dress in clothes that don't involve five different layers, Uggs and jeans. However, I refuse to look the part of a junior high girl with my shorty shorts, flip flops, tank top and pasty white skin on the first day of April in Wisconsin. So, I compromised and didn't wear full Uggs, real denim or long sleeves. Today I'm wearing:

My day is starting out in sunny Madison, Wisconsin and ending in an apparent winter storm in Breckenridge, Colorado. The precarious weather and the chance that I may end up spending the night in the Denver airport led me to a look of layers, comfort and of course black. Actually all black. It's my favorite color for many reasons, but even I have never gone completely monochromatic. Until today. Would you ever wear all one color?

Since it's a day that I get to wear whatever I feel like, I planned my outfit around the ultra-coveted Frye boots (see picture, and no...they're not the boots on Roy) from my sister's closet.

“Is this on right?” I asked my morning companion as I put on my sweater.

“I don’t even know how it works so I have no idea.” Generally, a response like that is no big deal, but this guy knows his fashion so I knew I was in trouble. It only got worse when I got to the office. Before I even sat down, a coworker kindly asked, “So I don’t get it…what exactly is the point of your shirt?”

My predilection towards dressing like a hobo may be evolving into a full blown trend. It’s too easy, especially on those mornings when you’ve failed to make it home the night before. If I’m going to embrace disheveled, I might as well go all out. Today I’m wearing:

A long time ago, in a far away land, a group of upstanding young gentlemen, belonging to a band that played shows at Arlene's Grocery, used to hang on the lower east side corner I frequented. We not so lovingly referred to their look as "hobo pirate" and in fact their style was eventually eulogized by the always friendly Vice Magazine.

Why, you're wondering am I telling you this fascinating story? Well...I'm ashamed to say, but there's really no better way to describe what I'm wearing today other than 'hobo pirate.' I've got on:

I chose today as the day to debut my Fall treat to myself: a recycled fox fur vest! It's my first fur, and I would like to stress to all of you animal rights people out there that it is RECYCLED. I'm not sure exactly what it's recycled from, but I know for certain that, as a wise person once put it, "no additional foxes were harmed in the making of this vest."
